The UCLA Latin American Institute was established in 1959 to coordinate research, instructional, and public service programs related to Latin America. In keeping with its research mission, the Institute undertook a scholarly publishing program to make available the results of original research of the highest quality. The Institute issued its first title in 1965 and for over four decades supported and complemented the LAI's research function by publishing statistical and bibliographic reference works, the interdisciplinary journal Latin American Lore, and scholarly books on Latin America.
Although the publications program is no longer active, the remaining inventory is still available for purchase. Requests for additional information may be directed to LAI publications manager Marcelo Jatobá at mjatoba@international.ucla.edu.
