Research

The Pacific World Research Network (PWRN) is a joint initiative of the Latin American Institute, the Asia Pacific Center, and the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at UCLA. The PWRN brings together scholars interested in doing research on Asians in Latin America and Latin Americans in Asia and on transpacific connections and interactions.

The Latin American Indigenous Studies Alliance (LAISA) is a partnership between Latin American Studies centers at UCLA, Stanford University, UC Berkeley, and the University of Utah. Together, we are pleased to offer opportunities for research dissemination, language learning, and professional development for language instructors.

The Latin American Institute and its affiliated centers have developed partnerships with institutions of higher education in Latin America, as well as in Europe, to encourage research collaborations between Latin Americanist and Latin American scholars in the humanities, social sciences, and professional programs.

For over four decades, the Latin American Institute supported and complemented its research function by publishing statistical and bibliographic reference works, the interdisciplinary journal Latin American Lore, and scholarly books on Latin America. Although we are no longer publishing new titles, old titles remain available for purchase.

The LAI offers periodic funding opportunities to support faculty research, conference travel, publication, and course development. Both ladder and non-ladder faculty are eligible for all LAI faculty grants.
