NOW AVAILABLE! The UCLA Latin American Institute, UCLA Mexican Arts Series (MAS) & UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture present a recording of 1988 concertos by several luminaries of twentieth-century Mexican music
From 1982 to 1997, the Mexican Arts Series (MAS) at UCLA actively engaged its mission to explore the Mexican and Mexican American artistic experience. In addition, MAS eventually expanded to incorporate programs devoted to the Latin American visual and performing arts as a whole, as well as to the artistic expression of the Latino population in the United States. Since its founding, MAS produced some eighty events in classical, popular, and folk music, film, dance, literature, art, photography, and theater. This recording is the result of the MAS programming of 1988. It is offered as a commemorative album in recognition of the fifteen year testament of MAS and its historical imprint.
In homage to the legacy of the Mexican Arts Series, the Latin American Institute, through its Eldorado recording label, presents Concertos from Mexico. Included on the recording are three concertos by luminaries of twentieth-century Mexican music— Manuel María Ponce, Rodolfo Halffter, and Blas Galindo—performed by soloists Santiago Rodríguez (piano), Johana Harris (piano), and Danilo Lozano (flute), with the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico, Abraham Chávez, conducting.
