Alexandre Pires is a French Ph.D. student visiting from the Université Paris Cité. Their main areas of research include cultural and economic geography, gender studies, urban studies, and Marxist social sciences and humanities. While visiting Los Angeles, they wish to conduct the mapping of the billboards picturing feminine bodies in Los Angeles. They question how advertising feminine bodies within public spaces embeds in Los Angeles’s urban fabric.

During their time at the Latin American Institute, Alexandre will coordinate the California Center of the Institut des Amériques. They will conduct fieldwork essential to their research. They wish to meet feminist and Marxist researchers and organize scientific events dealing with topics such as gender, capitalism, and the city.
