Linda Garro's research activities are in the areas of medical and psychological anthropology and include: how families make health care decisions; matters of health and illness in everyday life contexts; cultural models; narrative and illness; and remembering as a jointly social, cultural and cognitive process, or, more broadly, the intertwining of cultural, social and cognitive processes in “effort after meaning” as part of everyday life
