Presenters:

Nancy Burke is a professor of anthropology and public health at University of California, Merced who has been working with colleagues at the Universidad de Ciencias, Facultad Girón, in Havana, Cuba for over a decade and is the editor of Health Travels: Cuban Health Care on and Off the Island (UC Medical Humanities Consortium) and the co-director of the UC Cuba Academic Initiative based at UC Irvine.

Dr. César Herrera is director of CEDIMAT - Centro Cardiovascular, Santo Domingo, and is editor of Plenamar, a journal of literature, arts and commentary based in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He is the author of Extrasístoles (y otros accidentes) (2009), Seducir los sentidos (2010), Cuerpo [Accidente y Geografía] (2012) y La flama magna (2014).

Rodrigo Bulamah is currently a Post-doctoral fellow at the Graduate Program of Social Sciences, Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp). He has been working in Northern Haiti since 2012, combining ethnographic fieldwork with historical analysis focusing on themes such as mobility, kinship, historicity, and ecology. His actual research draws on ecologies of practice, environment, and energy in Haiti through analyzing the social life of wood charcoal and its representations and engagements in multiple scales.
