"Our Stories" - Illustrated Reflections on Cantonese Language and Culture

Opening Exhibition

Created by Save Cantonese at UCLA and Noah Hrung (UCLA DMA '28), "Our Stories: Illustrated Reflections on Cantonese Language & Culture" is a zine on Cantonese language and culture on display from January 15-29, 2026 at the New Wight Gallery (Rm 1100) in the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Center. Opening night will take place at New Wight Gallery on Thursday, January 15, 2026 from 5:00-8:00 PM. Admission is free and open to public. Visitor parking is available at Parking Structures 3 & 5.

This zine contains reflections on Cantonese language & culture from 13 contributors aged 11-74, from 7 US states and 2 countries abroad, and will be on view during the UCLA Design Media Arts Undergraduate Winter Exhibition 2026, "Acid Reflux." This exhibition is part of cross-campus efforts to celebrate Cantonese language and culture, with the eventual goal of reinstating Cantonese classes at UCLA in the near future.

This event is organized by UCLA Design Media Arts and sponsored by Save Cantonese at UCLA and the UCLA Asia Pacific Center's Cantonese Heritage Initiative.
