Tech-driven transformation in the Greater China region has been enabled by impressive technology innovators, Government policy, changes in consumer preferences and enterprise driven digital transformations. With growing political and economic tensions between the Greater China region and the United States, Singapore has emerged in a unique and pivotal role advancing innovation and global adoption for technology innovators throughout the world including those in Greater China.
Please join Professor Terry Kramer, faculty director for the Easton Technology Management Center and the Center for Global Management (CGM) for a moderated conversation with tech-oriented students/alumni who participated in the CGM's recent global immersion course. Panelists will share their views on the most promising areas of innovation and broader learnings around contextual leadership – – how to best understand the unique context in the region – – the preferences of consumers, the role of government policy and key tech innovators in driving unique outcomes. They will also explain how Southeast Asia, which stands at the intersection of digital transformation and AI, is poised for both opportunities and challenges, and how its ability to navigate these changes will shape its future economic landscape. Professor Kramer will describe the construct of the global immersion course and how it creates both the immediate appreciation of technology adoption in the Greater China and broader Asia region as well as a longer-term “mental map” for contextual leadership that can be used in a variety of environments and timeframes to assess effective strategy.
The Center for Global Management’s latest tech-focused global immersion course, led by Professor Terry Kramer, utilized travel to Singapore in March to anchor discussions and visits around Chinese companies that have offices there; to provide insights into the Chinese consumer and tech offerings and the differences with the U.S.; and to better understand the impressive areas of innovation and dynamic role of technology in the Greater China region as well as its impact on surrounding regions and the world. Sessions with local tech companies – both Chinese and Singaporean such as Alibaba Group, Grab, Meta, NIO, SHEIN, Temasek and Tencent, as well as other emerging artificial intelligence and fintech companies were important in providing important insights regarding technology innovation and adoption in the Greater China region and beyond including Southeast Asia.
